Reality SF is part of the Reality family of churches. But how that came to be true, that’s where the story begins. In 2007 Dave Lomas moved to Carpinteria to be part of the Reality Church Planting process. This marked the first time the staff had brought on a church planter without a specific location in mind for the next Reality. After months of prayer, it began to be clear that God was directing the new team to San Francisco. Not exactly the bible belt, mind you, but the sense of calling was undeniable.
The first SF prayer tour happened in December of 2007, the twin goals being to take in the sights & sounds of the city and listen to the Lord. Several more prayer tours followed, and with each subsequent trip the team took in more of the city’s history, it’s inhabitants, it’s streets. With each tour, the team members learned how to better pray.
The last prayer tour took place in January of 2010, and concluded with the first Sunday morning service at Reality SF. Somehow, sans promotion, this first service was full. In the spring of 2010 we began our Community Groups, and in the fall we added a second Sunday morning service. Our first baptism took place beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, in the San Francisco Bay. It should be noted, the water was not warm.
We are grateful and humbled to be a small part of what God is doing here in San Francisco. We love this city and being able to partner with other wonderful churches.
Reality SF is part of the Reality family of churches. We are grateful for, and consider ourselves accountable to this family.
