Music Ministry Director

Jason Perry Stevens was born and raised in Bakersfield, California into a loving and extremely supportive family. As a child, Jason was very musical and dramatic; always wanting to be the center of attention. From country songs in the car with mom to singing the TMNT theme song with his brothers, if there were a stage to be had, Jason would be there. At a young age, he "asked Jesus into his heart" in an effort to avoid the flames of hell. And just to be sure, he asked three more times.

As Jason got older, he felt the love of God grow distant and the flames of hell wane. He found himself "looking for love in all the wrong places," as women and acceptance became the driving force of his life. Towards the end of his senior year of high school, Jason started having strange apocalyptic dreams in which he saw himself repenting and asking God to save his life before all of humanity was wiped out. One night, he and his friends decided to enjoy a night filled with music, laughter and psychedelic drugs. This night turned out to be one of the most emotionally draining and stressful nights of his life. It was on this night that he decided to go back to church.

As he returned to church, he found more than a building or a gathering of people, he found Jesus–the loving, accepting, compassionate Jesus. Therein began his great adventure. Pondering what he might do with his life, he ventured away from the flat golden plains of Bako and moved to Costa Mesa to study Theatre at Vanguard University. While in Costa Mesa, Jason felt unsatisfied with where a life on stage might lead him and decided to study the one thing that brought him peace, the Bible.

While applying to Bible College, he traveled to Israel with the church in his hometown. It was on this trip to the Holy Land where he sensed God calling him to San Francisco. With no idea how he'd get there and his first semester of Bible College starting soon, he began to pray.

During the same time, his youth pastor from back home had moved to Carpinteria to be part of the Reality church planting process. This youth pastor was none other than Reality SF's Dave Lomas. Although Dave initially had no idea where God would lead him to plant a church, Jason had a very strong feeling that San Francisco would be where the next Reality started.

Two years, six cities and four countries later, Jason Found himself in Carpinteria where he would learn to become part of the Reality family. Shortly after, Jason would find himself in San Francisco helping plant Reality’s newest church.

Jason now leads worship at Reality SF and is very grateful to lead the people of God in worship and praise each Sunday. Jason lives in the Panhandle/NOPA/HAYBRO/Western Addition/whichever you prefer to call it district where he loves writing and playing music, taking photos and hanging in the park on a rare warm day in SF.
