Katy Henry grew up in Orange County, CA. She was raised in an extended family of church board members, missionaries, doctors of theology and pastors. Being raised in such a family is a proven blessing, but Katy often felt as if she lived in a fish bowl. Under the watchful eye of her family and the church, her desire to meet their expectations muddled the necessity for a true understanding of her validation through Christ.
She moved to Santa Barbara for college (SBCC) with the hopes of uncovering an honest spirituality, whatever that looked like. She was invited to Reality Carp by a friend. Though she tried her hardest to remain the composed Christian she thought she had to be, she openly wept at the overwhelming nature of God's love, a state you may often find her on any given Sunday.
Her transfer from SBCC to San Francisco State coincided with the Reality SF church plant and thus pointed very clearly to God's intent for Katy's life. She would be a 'missionary' in the foreign land of San Francisco.
On Oct 24th, 2010, Katy was baptized in the San Francisco Bay! To her it meant the stripping away of past anxiety and fear of being inadequate. It was a public declaration of God's faithfulness to finish the work He started in her. Now living in Cole Valley, she can't wait to graduate in May 2011 with a BA in Humanities. She knows that God will be faithful to provide a job in the gallery industry when the time comes.
Katy is currently volunteering as the Kids Ministry Coordinator. She hopes that the city will become a place where children meet Jesus, are safe to love God confidently, and where they can encounter the Holy Spirit in an honest way.
