03.02.22 | Ash Wednesday

As we enter the season of Lent, begin your time by reading and reflecting on our Guide for Observing Lent, following the five steps that are outlined. If you are looking for more practical guidance around fasting during Lent, we will continue to publish prompts every Wednesday.

During today’s Fasting and Prayer Focus, we will explore the possibility that God may be calling us to share the Good News of Christ with someone in our lives. In today’s BREAD reading from Acts 14, we read:

We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them.

Begin by finding a comfortable position, physical space, and posture of your body that will allow you to focus on God. Next, spend time appreciating Jesus, express whatever you are grateful to Him for. Open yourself to His presence with you, and try to feel that He is near you. If you see Him, fix your eyes on Jesus.

In prayer, ask:

Then spend time listening to what He is saying or what the Holy Spirit is putting on your heart as a response to these questions. The best way to keep track of what you are hearing is to journal. Spend some time in this space, and if you want to know more about a specific question, simply ask God, “Is there anything else You want me to know about [fill in the topic here]?”

Lastly, if Jesus has prompted you towards specific action, it is often good to share that with a brother or sister for accountability. Seek out someone in your community and share with them what Jesus has moved in you to do.
