The Story & Way of Jesus: Heaven Touching Earth (09.27.21)
Processing and responding to the Sunday sermon
Opening Prayer
After the group welcomes one another, have one person open in prayer and then take 2-3 minutes of silence. As you sit in silence, ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart in love toward God and your group mates.
Depending on God
On Sunday, Ruthie Kim preached from Mark 1:35-45 and the importance of depending on God.
Jesus departed to solitary wilderness places to pray. It was from these moments alone depending on the Father that Jesus found the power, authority, and clarity required for His mission. Likewise, disciples of Jesus like us get to follow in His footsteps to depend on God.
This week’s guide will provide space to dig in further, prayerfully process, and then discuss the sermon.
Reflection and Discussion
Read aloud Mark 1:35-45, and then prayerfully and silently reflect on the passage and these questions.
- What does it currently look like for you to keep rhythms of silence and solitude? How do you depend on God in these times?
- In this moment of prayerful reflection, what do you believe God wants you to know? Silently pay attention to images, verses, or words coming to mind that could be from the Holy Spirit.
After silently reflecting, take these thoughts into a time of group discussion.
- In what ways do you find it difficult to depend on God? In what ways is it easy?
- What are stories of times when you have been alone with God and He inspired you? Special quiet times, sabbath walks, retreats, or so on? Share these as a way to encourage one another and testify to the work of God.
Closing Intercession
Pray for your group, our church, our city, and our world.
