The Story & Way of Jesus: The Virtue of Faith (09.13.21)
Processing and responding to the Sunday sermon
Opening Prayer
After the group welcomes one another, have one person open in prayer and then take 2-3 minutes of silence. As you sit in silence, ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart in love toward God and your group mates.
Faith, Doubt, and Grief
On Sunday, Dave shared an important family update regarding our church, and then gave an encouragement and teaching from Hebrews 10:19-25 on the virtue of faith.
This week’s guide will focus on the topics of faith, doubt, and grief.
Reflection and Discussion
Read aloud Hebrews 10:19-25, and then prayerfully and silently reflect on the passage and these questions.
- If you were grieved by the update from our church on Sunday, what would you like God to know about your grief? Slow yourself and listen for His compassionate response.
- How would you describe the state of your faith in Jesus? In what ways do you see your life cultivating faith, and in what ways is faith being squelched?
- “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful” (v. 23). When are times where you have experienced God being faithful to you?
After silently reflecting, take these thoughts into a time of group discussion. Given the potential vulnerability of what some in our congregation are experiencing, please seek to be gentle and compassionate with one another while pointing one another to Jesus.
- From your time of prayer and reflection, what surprised you or stood out for you that you’d like to share?
Closing Intercession
Pray for your group, our church, our city, and our world.
