01.13.21 | Hunger & Healing

In today’s BREAD reading from Luke 8:43-48, the author gives an account of a woman being healed. Not unlike this woman, there are many people today who struggle with all kinds of sickness and want to be healed. And we believe that Jesus still desires to heal people today.

So this week’s fasting focus will be on aligning with Jesus to identify people in our lives that need and want healing. Spend some time allowing the Holy Spirit to bring names or faces of people to mind that are in need of the healing power of the Spirit. This may be family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, or even those we see on the street when we walk through our neighborhoods. Allow the Spirit to bring people to mind, and then use the rest of the day to pray for specific healing for them.

Every time the feeling of hunger arises, use it as a prompt to pray for the people God highlighted in your mind. During the time you would normally eat, use it instead for communion with God – engage with him about the things on your heart and healing for specific individuals.
