01.20.21 | Your Kingdom Come

In Monday’s BREAD reading from Luke 11, Jesus’ disciples approach him asking, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). So Jesus teaches them how to pray:

He said to them, “When you pray, say:
‘Father, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation’” (Luke 11:2-4).

We will follow Jesus’ example today by praying the prayer he taught us. As these last days and weeks have been difficult for everyone to navigate, may this prayer guide us through our day of fasting.

Try to memorize it, praying it over and over. As you say the prayer throughout the day, notice which words or line stands out to you and engage with God about it. Take time to journal about what God is speaking to you. Ask him how these words apply to your life, and what actions you can take.
