01.27.21 | Justice & Renewal

In Luke 18, the author introduces a parable: “Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1).

This parable is about a widow who persisted in her desire for justice against her adversaries (Luke 18:1-8). Because of her persistence, the king hears her, and justice is imparted.

Feeling like giving up is something we’ve all experienced. These last weeks, months, years even, have revealed a variety of areas where justice is needed in our own world. As followers of Jesus, we are called to partner with him in the renewal of our world, which only happens when we are persistent in this goal.

Today’s fasting focus will be centered on bringing to mind specific areas where we want to see justice and renewal happen in our own life, our community, our city, our nation, and our world.

First, spend some time in quiet and let the Spirit highlight some specific areas of justice that you desire for God to bring about; write them down. Next, spend time bringing these before God in prayer. Every time you feel hunger coming up today, use it as a prompt to pray for the justice you want to see.

End your time of fasting by asking the Spirit to show you how he may want you to participate in his work of renewal. Perhaps there is a Reality Renewal Partner that aligns with your desire for justice and renewal in a specific area. Step into partnership with them or another ministry that is focused on the work of justice and renewal.
