10.06.21 | Love the Lord

In today’s BREAD reading from Mark 12, one of the teachers of the law ask Jesus what the most important command in the Bible is, and he answers:

“The most important one…is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

The most important command that God gives us is to love Him!

During today’s fasting and prayer focus, we will be examining our own hearts, seeking to expand our love for Jesus.

Begin your time in appreciation for Jesus, worshipping him by speaking aloud what you love and enjoy about him. You may also choose to write these things down.

Then, spend time asking Jesus to remind you of the ways he has shown his love to you – maybe today, or yesterday, or in the past week. Allow yourself to receive his love for you today.

Next, seek to open yourself up even more to Jesus – try taking a posture of openness (sitting up, feet planted on the floor, palms open). Ask him something like “Jesus, what do you want me to know about how I can love you more? I want to expand my love for you today. I want to center my life more around yours.”

Then, end your time by sitting in silent reflection upon what Jesus is sharing with you, and what God is putting on your heart. Write your reflections down, and thank God for being with you today.
