11.10.21 | Love One Another
In today’s BREAD reading from John 13, Jesus says:
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
During today’s time of fasting and prayer, we will focus on remembering and immersing ourselves in Jesus’ love, and examine our own hearts in regards to our love for others.
Begin your time in prayer with Jesus, asking him to make you aware of the ways in which he loves you. Write down what comes to mind, and how you have received or experienced his love recently – whether today or yesterday, or in the past week. Thank him for the gift of his love, and then express your desire to be even more open and receptive to experiencing his love.
End your time of fasting and prayer by focusing on the ways that Jesus wants you, as his disciple, to love others. Ask yourself: are there specific people that Jesus is bringing to mind that he wants me to show love to today? Make an effort to reach out to them – whether over the phone or in a tangible way in-person.
Consider for yourself:
- Are there people in my life, or other disciples of Jesus, who I might have failed to love well this week?
- Is there someone I need to confess to that I have failed in loving them well? Communicate that you want to show them the love you have received.
Examine your interactions this week, and listen for the names Jesus highlights for you. Consider how he might be inviting you to demonstrate his love for them.
