12.01.21 | Doing Good
In today’s BREAD reading from 3 John, we read:
“Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.”
During today’s time of fasting and prayer, we will prepare our hearts for this Advent season by focusing on and doing good.
Begin your time in appreciation for who God is and what He has done for you. Spend time in prayer, and write down what you are grateful to Him for. If you do not know where to start, listening to a worship song or reading a psalm of praise can be helpful.
Next, ask God to bring to mind either, someone in your community or a character from the Bible, who has done good for others.
Then spend time asking God how He may be inviting you to imitate the goodness you have witnessed. Consider:
- What goodness have you seen on display?
- What is at the core of that goodness?
- How does God want you to display the goodness you have seen?
Lastly, ask God to bring to mind a person He wants you to display this goodness towards. Then, commit to displaying the goodness of God to whomever He has highlighted to you this week.
