12.15.21 | Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
In light of the Advent season, during this time of fasting and prayer we will spend time orienting our hearts towards Jesus’ arrival. We will meditate on, and listen closely to, the words of “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus.”
Begin by reading the words of this song slowly, perhaps even sing them aloud or listen to the song. Pay attention to which words or phrases stand out to you.
Sit with the word or phrase that stands out, and ask God, “what do You want me to know about this word or phrase?” Consider what you feel you are hearing Him say. Then, spend time listening, and journal about what you hear.
- What does this word or phrase reveal about God?
- What is He pointing you towards or speaking to you about?
Read the lyrics again and pay attention to what hope is being revealed to you concerning Christ’s coming.
- What does it point out to you about longing for Jesus’ return?
- What are you longing for Him to do when He comes back?
Once you have identified something, spend time praying for His coming and His restoration on earth.
Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
Come, thou long expected Jesus
Born to set thy people free
From our fears and sins release us
Let us find our rest in Thee
Israel’s strength and consolation
Hope of all the earth Thou art
Dear desire of every nation
Joy of every longing heart
Born Thy people to deliver
Born a child and yet a King
Born to reign in us forever
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone
By Thine all sufficient merit
Raise us to Thy glorious throne
We are waiting, we are waiting, we are waiting for you
We are waiting, we are waiting, we are waiting for you
We are waiting, we are waiting, we are waiting for you
We are waiting, we are waiting, we are waiting for you
Hallelujah, what a Savior!
