12.22.21 | Considering Others

In light of the Advent season, during this time of fasting and prayer we will spend time asking Jesus who He may be preparing our hearts for and how we can respond to His prompting.

Begin today by mediating on the lyrics to the hymn, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. Read the words of this song slowly, perhaps even sing them aloud or listen to the song. Pay attention to which words or phrases stand out to you.

Then, sit with the word or phrase that stood out and ask God what He wants you to know about this word or phrase. Pay attention to what you feel you are hearing Him say.

Spend time listening and journal about what you hear.

Read the lyrics again and pay attention who comes to mind – perhaps someone that you plan to see or interact with over the holidays.

Write down what comes to mind, and make a commitment to God to utilize the knowledge and prompting that He has gifted you with when you encounter that person this week.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic host proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark, the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Christ by highest heaven adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a virgin’s womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!

Hail, the heav’n-born Prince of peace
Hail! the Sun of Righteousness
Light and life to all he brings
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the some of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
