The Story & Way of Jesus: Discipleship According to Jesus (09.06.21)
Processing and responding to the Sunday sermon
Opening Prayer
After the group welcomes one another, have one person open in prayer and then take 2-3 minutes of silence. As you sit in silence, ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart in love toward God and your group mates.
Disciples of Jesus
Continuing in the Scripture from Mark 1:16-20 and 2:13-17, today’s group time will examine what Jesus means by discipleship. When Jesus calls people to be His disciples, He invites people into relationship, apprenticeship, and apostleship.
Relationship, because Jesus calls us to be intimately connected to Him. Apprenticeship, because disciples are seeking to become like Jesus in character and action. Apostleship, because Jesus sends His disciples out into the world to be like Him—full of the Holy Spirit’s power and love.
This weeks guides your group to reflect on and talk through your discipleship to Jesus.
Reflection and Discussion
Read aloud Mark 1:16-20 and 2:13-17, and then prayerfully and silently reflect on the passage and these questions.
- What is Jesus good at that you want to be good at as one of His apprentices?
- When are times you’ve believed you were sent by Jesus for a specific purpose? Where do you believe Jesus is sending you now?
After silently reflecting, take these thoughts into a time of group discussion.
- From your time of prayer and reflection, what surprised you that you’d like to share?
- What does it look like for this group to encourage one another as disciples of Jesus invested in relationship with God, apprenticeship to Jesus, and apostleship empowered by the Holy Spirit?
Closing Intercession
Pray for God’s will to be done in your group, our church, our city, and our world.
