For our final lecture in the Year of Biblical Literacy Lecture Series, we welcomed author, social critic, and international speaker Os Guinness. Os spoke on the phenomenon of modernity in our world and the challenges (as well as opportunities) it presents for followers of Jesus. Q&A followed. Os Guinness received his doctorate in social sciences from Oxford and has written or edited more than thirty books. He has served as a fellow and guest scholar at many prestigious institutions and has spoken at dozens of the world’s major universities and political and business conferences. (And if his last name sounds familiar... yes, he is the great-great-great grandson of Arthur Guinness, the Dublin brewer.)

Andy is executive editor of Christianity Today and serves on the governing boards of Fuller Theological Seminary, the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, and Equitas Group, a philanthropic organization focused on ending child exploitation in Haiti and Southeast Asia. His writing has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Time, and he is the author of books such as Strong and Weak, Playing God, and Culture Making.

Dr. McKnight is the author or editor of fifty books and serves as the Professor of New Testament at Northern Seminary in Lombard, Illinois.

Tech & Spirituality Forum

People in our church who work in or are part of the tech, startup or advertising industries were invited to a discussion on how to be a steward of Christ in the workplace. The discussion was aimed at answering two main questions: What does it mean to have a clear understanding of how to live a Jesus-centered life while working in the high-demand tech industry? How do you create a space for human flourishing for you personally and for the people you interact with while conducting business? At the Tech and Spirituality Forum, Dave Blanchard from Praxis, a kingdom-centered accelerator, Julie Barrios, our Spiritual Formation Director, and a panel of six from within our church began conversation around these topics.

Dating Lecture
John Mark Comer
John Mark Comer, the author of Loveology, opened up the topic of dating to our church. John Mark spoke for the first half of the night on a brief history of dating, various ways we tend to approach dating culturally and our calling to build relationships on a solid foundation in Christ. For the second half of the night we invited a panel of four up to answer questions from our church-body.
