Meet Elder Candidate Drew Wilkerson
On Sunday, November 15th, we plan to install elder candidate Drew Wilkerson as an elder at Reality San Francisco. We interviewed Drew to help you get to know him, his story, and what he is passionate about.
Tell us a little about how you became a follower of Jesus?
I grew up with divorced parents and did not go to church consistently. When I was 13, I moved in with my father who started taking me to church weekly. Over the course of about a year attending that church regularly and hearing the good news of Jesus, I was saved and committed my life to following Him. Because of the faithful discipleship of others throughout my high school and college years, my faith became stronger, and my desire to pursue Jesus intensified.
Tell us about your family.
Heather and I have been married for nine years. We have two wonderful kids, Phoebe (4) and Luke (11 months).
Why is San Francisco home for you?
We were married in Napa nine years ago, and honeymooned in the city. We fell in love with the city, and also felt deeply burdened for San Francisco. We began to pray consistently for the city, and shortly afterward, we moved here through many affirmations of God and answered prayers.
God has continued to grow our love for this city and the people here. Everything from the history, the culture, the food, the beauty, and the possibilities that are here… We could not think of a better city to call home and raise our family, and we regularly think of how grateful we are to be able to live here.
What was your journey to joining the Reality SF community?
When we first moved to the city, we were helping to start a new church plant. We were part of that church for a few years when it merged with an existing church in the city, and we felt led to explore a different church. Our first visit was to Reality, and we felt an overwhelming sense of peace and affirmation from the Lord. We have been here ever since.
What would you like the church to know about you?
I have recently committed to attempt to improve my mediocre golf game. Please feel free to hold me accountable in this important work.
Where is your favorite place in the city?
There are so many places. The north overlook at Lafayette Park is special… it always feels peaceful to me.
What is the best meal you’ve had in the city?
Very hard question. The omakase at Robin in Hayes Valley was wonderful.
What are your passions?
I have many, but I am most passionate about discipleship and generosity.
What are your hopes for our church community in this coming season?
I am hopeful for us to grow in our discipleship to Jesus, and through that, to see many more people in the city come to know Him as their beautiful Savior. I am very excited for this next season and feel that the Lord has big things in store for our church as we pursue Him together.
