Community Examen, Part 4: Life-Giving Adjustment (08.24.20)

A Series of Guides for Groups Reassessing & Realigning on Community as Followers of Jesus

Leader’s Note

We encourage groups to abide by local ordinances for public health and safety. Continue to meet via video calls, or if meeting in person outside, abide by SF safety guidelines for outdoor, in-person gatherings.

Opening Prayer

After the group welcomes one another, have one person open in prayer and then take 2-3 minutes of silence. As you sit in silence, ask the Holy Spirit to help you recall some important takeaways your group has had the last few weeks in considering Appreciation, Compassionate Curiosity, and Resilient Discipleship.

Discuss

What are the group’s important takeaways from doing this Community Examen series?

Community Examen

During this series, we are taking a simple inventory of our communities in order to set them up for connection, health, and discipleship to Jesus.

In these final weeks, you will get to process your personal experiences while offering feedback, and then this will set your group up for a conversation about adjustments to make as individuals or as a group. It’s good and normal for groups to adjust over time, because this is a sign of growing in maturity.

Practicing Life-Giving Adjustments

Set aside 10 minutes to reflect with the questions on this anonymous Community Examen Feedback form and submit your responses.

After the group completes the form, read Hebrews 10:22-25 and then discuss:

Closing Intercession

Pray for your group, our church, our city, and our world.

Next Meeting Preview

The topic will be Rhythms and the importance of community rhythms that foster connection and growth in Christ. Your group will get to examine a curated list of options for rhythms you can take on in this coming season—which can include studying books of the Bible, other Christian spiritual classics, or following the “Regular Time” rhythms that our CGs have used before.
