Community Examen, Part 6: Contributing Joyfully (09.08.20)
A Series of Guides for Groups Reassessing & Realigning on Community as Followers of Jesus
Leader’s Note
- We encourage groups to abide by local ordinances for public health and safety. If meeting in person outside, abide by SF safety guidelines for outdoor, in-person gatherings.
- If your group is ready to launch into a Steady Rhythm of the guides from Part 5, feel free to begin at your own pace.
Opening Prayer
After the group welcomes one another, have one person open in prayer and then take 2-3 minutes of silence. As you sit in silence, ask how the Holy Spirit has gifted you. What are some of the unique abilities or perspectives that you enjoy serving others with?
Community Examen
During this series, we are taking a simple inventory of our communities in order to set them up for connection, health, and discipleship to Jesus.
In this final week, the group gets to consider the ways each member has been gifted to joyfully contribute to the group. Every member has an important role to play in using their gifts for the sake of the common good (1 Corinthians 12:7). Faithfully bringing our gifts in service to one another is a joy, and by serving one another using our gifts, a group can find greater connection and health.
Exercise in Contributing Joyfully
Focus on one person in the group at a time. Each person can briefly share the gifts they identified in the opening prayer time, and then the group will bless and affirm the ways they have seen these gifts—as well as other gifts they see.
After each person has been blessed in their gifts. Discuss as a group:
- What would it look like for each of us to joyfully contribute our gifts to this group?
Closing Intercession
Pray for your group, our church, our city, and our world.
