Sergio Gomes

Pastoral Resident

Sergio was born and raised in Cerritos, a small city in Los Angeles County. Although he attended mass every Sunday with his Catholic mother, Sergio did not have a relationship with God until a radical encounter with Jesus at the age of 20.

Sergio studied history at Cal State Fullerton, with the intention of teaching at a local high school. However, Jesus called him to vocational ministry, and he later earned a Masters of Divinity from Talbot School of Theology at BIOLA University. Before pursuing ministry, Sergio worked in various odd jobs, including as a driving instructor, bank teller, and sales representative.

Sergio discerned his call to vocational ministry through the encouragement of people in his small group, the guidance of his first mentor, and the affirmation from the Holy Spirit that the gift of teaching had been placed on his life. In 2018, despite his own hesitations and desires, Sergio felt a clear pull from God to move his entire family to San Francisco. After joining the first Searock Sessions cohort, the Lord made it clear that he was calling Sergio to lead a new church, eventually settling in as a part of the Reality SF community and then joining the team as our first Pastoral Resident.

In his spare time, Sergio enjoys playing video games with his three kids, trying out new places to eat with his wife of 14 years, and drinking coffee, bourbon, wine, and tea. He is passionate about discipleship and loves spending time with people.
